What happened in 2009 in WA?

Advocating for Accessible, Quality Public Education

2009 Legislative Agenda

#1. Maintain funding levels for Initiatives 728 and 732
Funding for Initiatives 728 & 732 (classroom size & teacher pay) was cut.  The WEA (Washington Education Association) was the leader in this effort to maintain funding for both of these critical initiatives.  WEA is a key LPPO community partner.

#2. Support School Discipline Reforms (Handcuffing Bill)
The Handcuff bill did not pass.  This puts restrictions on when handcuffs and other restraints can be used and by whom.  LPPO’s black clergy partners were key leaders in this effort as well as the prime senate sponsor Sen. Claudia Kauffman from south King County.
